9. A Farm Horse
A Scottish farmer was trying to relocate a dairy cow and her calf when the territorial cow became aggressive. She started kicking the farmer, knocking her to the ground. Just in time the farmer’s horse ran up and got in between the farmer and the cow. The horse kicked at the cow until she went away, averting a potential disaster.
8. Binti the Ape
A 3 year old boy fell over the barrier and 20 feet into the ape pit at Brookfield Zoo in Chicago. An 8 year old ape named Binti saw the toddler and picked him up. She held the boy while rocking her arms back and forth and protecting the child from the other apes. Eventually she brought the boy to the enclosure’s entrance where people were waiting. The boy went to the hospital and made a full recovery and the ape was praised as being a hero.
7. Bunny
Rabbits are not known for their heroics or bravery, except for this instance. A man had seemed to doze off in front of his TV set while his wife was in the kitchen. In reality he was suffering a diabetic reaction that left him unable to move or make any noises. Their pet rabbit sensed something was wrong and started to hop and fidget on the man’s chest until the wife noticed the bunnies odd behavior and realized what was happening with her husband. She immediately called for emergency assistance and the man was saved all thanks to a very timely bunny alert.
6. Cat
Carbon monoxide was pumping into a family’s home in 2007 due to a water pump malfunction. The family cat sensed a change in the air and rushed to the parents bedside to wake them up. Only the wife was awake, the husband and their son were completely unconscious. The woman struggled to a phone and remained conscious just long enough to dial 911. Without the family cat there to alert the wife, this story surely would have ended in tragedy.
5. Dogs
Dogs really are man’s best friend. You can find all kinds of interesting and incredible stories involving dogs saving humans from disastrous situations. A golden retriever once saved a woman from choking on an apple by pounding on her chest! Another time a cocker spaniel and her owner were involved in a car accident that trapped the owner. The dog ran to a neighbor’s porch and waited until the neighbor came home to alert him of the emergency. A doberman pinscher once saved a baby by getting between it and a King Brown snake and even took a snake bite before the baby was taken away from the serpent. In yet another act of dog bravery a black labrador saved a drowning disabled woman by obeying its owners command to “fetch” the drowning woman.
4. Elephant
An elephant was most likely in search for food and decided to break down a door and crash through a wall to find it. The wall was the front of a house and in that house was a baby. The child started to cry and the elephant, miraculously, stopped and even started picking debris off of the baby and her cot. After this crazy act of empathy the elephant turned away and returned to the forest that it came from, sparing the house from further damage.
3. Parrot
Parrots can be trained to say human words and even whole sentences. It is this fact that saved a baby girl one day. The toddler started choking on some food while her mom was in the bathroom. The pet parrot started screeching the words mama and baby over and over until the mom rushed out of the bathroom to give her daughter the Heimlich maneuver.
2. Beavers
A young boy was out camping with his family in Ontario, Canada. His parents were out on the water fishing when their boat tipped over. The couple tragically drowned with the boy helplessly watching from the shore. Traumatized and panic stricken the boy tried to wander to the nearest town to get help. Eventually he realized he would have to spend the night outdoors. He curled up and was attempting to sleep in the freezing cold when three beavers snuggled up against him, saving him from freezing to death. This is another story that proves that wild animals are capable of compassion towards human beings.
1. School of Dolphins
Surfer Todd Endris was doing what he loves when a Great White Shark came from out of nowhere and took a chunk out of his backside. Suddenly a pod of dolphins showed up just in time to ward off the shark and allow the man to swim to safety and first aid. This isn’t the first time dolphins have saved human beings and experts know that they are mentally capable of making such decisions but don’t know why they do so. Either way dolphin heroics definitely make for awesome stories.
