Hybrid vehicles have some characteristics you may not be familiar with, but that are normal for a hybrid.

Charging the Lithium-ion battery while driving is important because the vehicle cannot run if the Lithium-ion battery is discharged. The Lithium-ion battery recharges when the shift lever is in any position except Neutral.

Also, the Hybrid system includes air vents for the Lithium-ion battery located on the rear side trim panels.

If the vents are covered, hybrid system performance may suffer due to the high voltage battery overheating.

After the hybrid system is activated, the following noises and vibrations that are unique to the hybrid system may occur. This does not indicate a malfunction.
● Electric motor noise from the engine compartment.
● Noise from the rear of the vehicle when the hybrid system activates or deactivates.
● Noise and vibration when the gasoline engine starts running or stops.
● Engine noise due to rapid acceleration.
● Operating noise or electric motor noise when releasing the accelerator pedal or depressing the brake pedal.
● Fan noise from the air inlet located between the rear seat and rear door.
● Noise from the climate control system
● Noise from the vehicle in order to alert pedestrians to the presence of an approaching vehicle.
Please see your Owner’s Manual for important safety information, system limitations and additional operating information.
