** SPF and HD powder often get a bad rap, but neither are a problem on camera when used correctly. SPF in foundations do not read on digital cameras, however, some heavier sunblocks (thicker white lotions) can read on camera. HD powder, when applied with a fan brush, gives the skin a silky smooth finish without any flashback on camera. When HD powder is used to catch shadow fallout or is applied too heavily on dry skin, it will read poorly on camera. Don't blame the makeup, blame the mistake-up artist! SPF can be essential for outdoor shoots to protect the skin, and HD powder (and other silica-based powders) give an airbrushed effect to the skin - neither should be ruled out due to a dated rule or poor application. I know this contradicts some information floating around - but after 10 years of working as a makeup artist and photographer, I can safely put these makeup myths to rest! **
